The District Attorney of Santa Fe is Mary Carmack-Altwies. He announced in a statement that charges will be filed by the end of the month. She stated, “Actor and producer Alec Baldwin and armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed will each be charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter.” She added, “On my watch, no one is above the law, and everyone deserves justice.”

If convicted, both Baldwin and Gutierrez-Reed could face up to 18 months in jail and a $5,000 fine. The case will be tried by a jury, as per the prosecutor’s statement. Film director Joel Souza was also injured in the shooting incident. But, prosecutors have stated that no charges will be filed in connection with that.

Ms. Hutchins’ husband, Matthew, has expressed his support for the charges being filed. He stated, “It is a comfort to the family that, in New Mexico, no one is above the law.” Baldwin’s lawyer, Luke Nikas, has called the decision to file charges a “terrible miscarriage of justice.” He added, “We will fight these charges, and we will win.” On the other hand, Ms Gutierrez-Reed’s lawyer stated that the charges are a result of a “very flawed investigation and an inaccurate understanding of the full facts.”
Background of the Incident and Settlement with Hutchins’ Family.
After the shooting, Baldwin stated that the gun had misfired. And that he had not pulled the trigger or was aware that it was loaded. In October, the actor and the film’s production company reached a settlement for an undisclosed amount with the family of Ms. Hutchins. It is after her husband filed a wrongful death lawsuit alleging violations of industry standards. The film production was scheduled to resume this year with Mr. Hutchins as an executive producer.
